im currently have one hive of carnolians and one hive of italians.
is there a type bee that survives in the vally and produces more honey? because iv heared that italians are good and carnolians are good. i my self have seen my italians thrive in this wether and my carnolians do the same. im stumped on the subject.
oh has eny one tried to keep the new russian hybreds?

It's six and a half dozen of ther other. Since you have both, keep good records and see which works best for you. I've kept both and the only difference I've seen is the Italians are easier to work with.
Now the Russians, what a disaster. When they first arrived they showed so much promise, but since then they are prone to swarm, aren't good honey producers, and from what I hear they crap on everything like they had nosema. And they are getting nasty. Stick with what works.

Caucasian bee (Apis mellifera caucasica). "These bees originated in the Caucasus Mountains between the Black and Caspian Seas. They are lead-gray in color, very gentle, and swarm infrequently. Caucasian bees over-winter poorly, build up slowly in spring, are susceptible to Nosema disease, and gum up their hives with propolis" TEXT", Keith Delaplane. This book is sold at Ruhl Bee supply, probably at Glorybee and Ron Bennett's too.

what about buckfest are they any good the books i read say thay are? what is an all star? i was just on the bee-commerce web sight and thay said thay sold all star as hybred did bee-commerce make a mistake or did it meen starline?

I have no knowledge about Buckfest or Starline. Many commercial beekeepers use both Carniolan and Italian, say a 50/50 mix.
If you want to feed and baby your bees, then Italian. Italian can be great, but sometimes there totally out of sink with our climate. I buy a mix still, favoring the New World Carniolans (Sue Cobey, New World Carniolan project).
I'd like to start buying SMR bees. Definitely patronize queen breeders working on disease and pest resistance. I'd love to raise some of my own queens -- that impossible for me, no time.

tod, I'd like to say my carnolians are good but thay are doing terrable right now. stress is a problem with them right know because of an over active Queen and i don't have a bee suit right now. i barrowed one from a guy for a while but i gave it back so he could get a bee hive out of a wall. but people from washing to are bringing me two suits and abuch of other stuff for me to try out and see if they fit right. but untill then im suit less. my italians are doing great. but next year i thank ill try out a couple hives of buckfest honey bees. all the books say the same thing about them and thay sound really good and i hope there right.
