I lost my hive to yellow jackets last year, so I'm pretty anxious about their activities. There are constantly 3-6 yellow jackets scurrying around the ground under my hive, which sits about 12" over gravel. I've seen them fighting with and carrying off bees, carrying away mostly dead bees (some that just lost the fight). I sense they are gleaning the dead bees cleaned out of the hive. I have yellow jacket traps up all over, and they're getting full, so effective, but there are still always yellow jackets busy under the hive.
Any ideas on how to keep them away? I don't want them getting more aggressive ideas there a month or two from now. Since my hive sits on gravel, it's not possible for me to clean away the discarded bee carcasses. Suggestions? Am I being too concerned about them too early in the year? Thanks.
