Winter solstice reminds me that I have just several days left before the bee work begins for yet another year. While I do dearly love my life as a beekeeper and enjoy the bee work, I have come to really appreciate the time after the conference when most of the bee work is done and I can do some welding, service equipment and vehicles, build equipment, etc.... Almond pollination and the tree fruit pollination here in Oregon is quite a hectic time. Once the bees are out of cherries and in meadowfoam it seems like life returns back to somewhat of a sane tempo. Queens become available and bee work is as fun as it gets. So at this time, what does Solstice mean to me? I have a finger in both ears yelling LAA, LAA, LAA, LAA!!! Heavy-duty work is right around the corner.
