We've got a 2500 sq. ft. garden and a 4000 sq.ft. food forest (berries, fruit trees, grapes, etc.) and we're thinking about having a hive or two, but we have no idea where to start. We want pollinators and fresh honey. Any suggestions regarding books, supplies, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

1. Don't depend on books. Join your local club & take their bee classes. Listen. Beekeeping is still primarily an art passed on by word of mouth.
2. Beekeeping for Dummies will give you the lingo & help you understand what people are talking about when they say "deep" or "Langstroth" or "checkerboarding" or "supers."
3. YouTube is also a wealth of information that gives you much-needed visuals once you have the basics down.
4. Once you have a working knowledge of bees, start asking questions at your bee club. You will have many! Realize there are more opinions than there are beekeepers.
