Sounds like you have an Italian queen. Is that right? I would be concerned with feed if she is in the top box with wall to wall eggs. Do you have any honey left? Colonies like this often are candidates for stress related disorders like Nosema and Chalk brood if they are not given a helping hand. (Feed) Reversing wouldn't hurt I guess. How about NOT reversing and hammering them with syrup laced with fumigillin. They will push her down and fill the upper with good clean feed for later on.

I very much concur with Harry. Some Italians are just not adapted to our climate. While most of our colonies are winding down and rationing their resources, some Italians are raising brood like mad during the dearth and depleting their resources. For hives like this (and other reasons), I always don't extract a certain number of supers with the darkest comb. I personally don't have a lot of time to do sugar water feeding, although every few years you'll want to feed fumidil B for nosema.

All this talk of queens this year... Well I'm the lone ranger out here on the west coast; I use Italian queens. I have to feed'em heavy, but hey, they feed me heavy. (Don't say it, Thom!) Who's going to complain about High populations?!!! You want to make money in bees? 8-)Run Italians!
