Even with weather threatening 50 hardy souls show up for the morning. The boys from Dallas bring in two really really good hives. The Dr. brings in his hard working hive. And then there those two from Grand Ronde.
Mr. Rodia brings in his "Frisky" package and allows the "Maestro Bee Whisperer" President Rich Farrier to install them. Rich was a little concerned about the queen and showed and explained how a replacement could be introduced later.
Rich "The Bee Maestro" then went to work on the Dallas hives. A great way to learn about what really good looking hives look like. Did you notice how well these bee's worked? Even in the cold and rain at times. And Rich comes up with the queens in no time.
Then on to the little hives--Rich was being kind to the owner. Small may not be worth saving. Second small one he finds the varroa right away. It had been treated in the fall. Again the Bee Whisper shows everyone the queens from each box.
Lastly Mikes hive that had been a little feisty earlier. Rich does his thing--they calm down. And then again he comes up with the queen. I think Mike Rodia was a little nervous as Rich shows off the queen on the hive tool, then on his fingers, but when she does her little flight Mike was breathing deeply. Not Rich, he simply brings her back to the hive tool, and then back on to the frame. A great day to see all kinds of different equipment in use and see how some really good beekeepers do their thing.
Thanks to everyone who planned, attended, showed up for the day.
