I know we were focused on our over winter losses at the last meeting but let's not forget we have a new year at hand. The El-Nino has blessed us with an early spring and the bees in the Willamette Valley think spring has sprung. I wanted to mention to some of our newer members to stay on top of your brood nest management by opening up the brood nest at least. You do that by inserting empty "pretty" comb or foundation from the outside of the box into the middle of the brood. I would preferably put the empty comb/foundation between frames of capped brood. If you are feeding 1:1 the bees will draw foundation nicely now. I like to give the feed a rest say a week on and then a week off to prevent them from storing much feed overhead at this time. Good luck!
