I think you should buy a reference book like "Honey Bee Diseases & Pests". Inside you will find excellent pictures and descriptions of AFB and other possible causes of your misfortune. Also, there was a discussion on this subject a few months ago... AFB in nuc. Go to page two.
Lastly, it does help if you can take the suspect frame to an experienced beekeeper and ask them. I first had Torey Johnson verify that I had AFB. Then, suspecting I had it again, I had Dr. Burgett verify that I didn't have it. If you do have AFB, and it developes further, then you should begin to see classic signs, namely dark scale on the bottom of the cells. If you do have it for sure, then at least burn the frames and probably the bottom board. Then you'll have to scorch the balance of equipment on the surface with fire. Maybe burning everything is easier. If I knew I had AFB for sure, I'd burn everything myself.

Michael If your not sure take to an experience beekeeper. Your mind can play tricks on you when think you have it, but you really don't. Although, bieng able to smell it two to three feet away is a strong indicator. There's a product out there I think from Mann Lake that actually has a field test for AFB. Check it out..

O.K. boys, This time it's for real. Get your dead butts up here starting this Saturday and Sunday and GET TO NAILING!! We are switching over to 6 - 7 deeps on all of our hives just like the beekeepers in the Dakotas. They ALL have that configuration, you know, just ask rzzzzzs! But you can't stop there, we need to add 5000 more units! That will help offset the Chiropractor that we will retain. I expect to see both of you at 5:30 sharp on Saturday, and make sure to stop by Lowes and grab a stepladder on your way out. NOW GET TO NAILING! Uncle Normy

Uncle Normy I noticed you didn't respond to the topic's question NORMY? Is that because you make it a habit of dropping your deseased hives at Harry's doorstep or do you just send them floating down the river? Oh and while I was in the Dakotas, a REAL beekeeper told me they have genetically modified their queens to lay 6,000 eggs each day It's amazing what you can learn when you have an open mind!

Sooo,,,rfleas, did you actually TEXT some of these super-queens from the "real beekeeper?) Yes ab-Normy...I've tested/text these queens myself. These queens are amazing! Average worker brood cycle is approximately 15-16 days which explains the need for 20 deeps each. One caveat though, you need guy wires to stabilize these puppies. I've placed my order for a breeder and will make production queens available sometime around the beginning of April next year. Wellllll, I'm a real beekeeper too and I have this incredible hive stand for sale. It can hold thousands of hives; eight, nine, ten, even twenty stories tall. Can it be shipped U"BS"?
