This is my first year at this hobby and my bees are doing really well. I did my first inspection after about two months, having put up a western super above the original deep I started out with. The bees appear to be quite healthy and active.
The western super has plenty of honey in it, judging by its weight.
However, I elected to let the bees "do their thing" in terms of drawing comb. Neither the deep nor the super have foundation in them, and I'm finding that the little buggers drew comb all over the place. It's nowhere near uniform. (I really made a mess when I started separating the frames!) So, I'm thinking about taking off the honey and the foundationless frames in the super and then using foundation frames to replace the ones I began with.
My question is whether or not the bees will be able to make enough honey going into the late fall and winter.
You opinion is greatly appreciated.
