I am an organic gardner of vegetables, berries, native and other wildflowers -for personal enjoyment/use- and live on a 24 acre farm just 1.5 miles south of city of canby, oregon (45 min south of portland). I seek people who believe in natural beekeeping.
We have been on our property for 5 years, with initial interest in possibly doing beekeeping, (leaning a lot toward bee friendly plants, trees, shrubs) but realistically we don’t have the time nor intense interest to pursue being beekeepers. My wife and I both work close to full time(4-5 days a week)as a teacher and a family doctor.
I am interested in inviting a small scale preferably organic process beekeeper to maybe run 1-5 hives or so over time - on whatever location is best on the property. I understand that most keepers might offer some personal amounts of honey in exchange for the opportunity to be on the land. I am fine with that.
We have 1/4 mile of riverfront along molalla river, which we are reestablishing /rebuilding riverside riparian zone forest (2500+ trees and shrubs, very heavy on willows, red osier dogwoods, full diversity of native plants and trees ). We are as of 12/2014 designated as a wildlife conservation and management AREA -23.25 of the total 24.25 acres, with oregon dept fish and wildlife. There is already a good population of all types of bumble, mason, honeybees in the seasons, but I want to support more. We get good pollination already, but hives can indirectly support others in this rural area.
Part of our plans is to plant oaks and maintain a traditional Oak woodland on at least 7 acres of the remaining pasture areas that last had a crop of winter barley 2009/2010. We have no intention of growing any crops for fodder, nor food or profit. Will just work to establish a good balanced set of grassland species to support birds, other wildlife along with the oak forest, the new (as of 2012) young riparian forest.
If you know of a beekeeper or certain individuals that might be interested at your shop/clientele, or from a local beekeepers club, please feel free to pass this info on.
thanks,
David Peter
