I'd like to learn about bee keeping and would be interested in volunteering some time with a bee keeper in the Pendleton, Oregon area next spring. The Yellow Pages weren't much help with tracking down a bee keeper/apiary, though. Anyone have any tips? Thanks in advance.

Matt, check the events page at orsba.org later this winter. There is going to be a Honey Bee Workshop in Nysa (or how ever it is spelled) or some where near there probably in April. Other readers of this forum should have more info on this. There are beekeepers out there but other than being members of the OSBA there in no local branch. Hopefully enough of you will meet one another at the HBW and form a group. Hint hint...

Thanks, Thom. That sounds like a great learning/networking opportunity. I'll try reading a book about bee keeping this winter so I'll have at least a vague idea by next spring.

If you like a really good scientific book you may want to get The Hive and the Honey Bee. Something on the lighter side would be The Beekeepers Handbook by Diane Samataro. An excelent book for any beekeeper. If you want to get a graduate degree in beekeeping then get a copy of The Wisdom of the Hive by Thomas Seeley. See you when the weather breaks.
