I borrowed a refractometer because I wanted to test some uncapped honey in my hive. I figured that maybe the honey was actually curred but uncapped because there weren't enough young wax producing bees to do the job at this time of year. Wrong! 25 % moisture. So I tested some capped honey... some frames 15 % and some as high as 19%. I tested honey that other beekeepers gave me for lending them my extractor. One was 22%, another was 20% (from last year) and starting to ferment.
If you are in the honey business you really need to have one of these devices.

25% huh? Did you try different lighting on the same sample? Keep up the good work! Uncle Normy

Yes, and it was all about the same. Halogen is probably the closest to full spectrum and I would think it be the most reliable.

Sun light? What's that? I live on the coast and I hear we may see that again sometime during the summer of 05, but nothing is for sure. We didn't see it this summer.
