Good afternoon,
My name is danny, my family and i live in hermiston oregon and are wanting to start keeping bees for personal use honey. My kids go through a lot of it and we are into getting as many of the things we need ourselves as we can. We raise a garden, cann what we grow, we forage for mushrooms and berries, hunt and fish for probably 95% of the animal products we use, and we try very hard to make it all a family activity with our 3 kids. So maintaining a honey bee hive made perfect sense, But its an unknown world to us. We have been doing some reading and researching but talking to the experts couldnt hurt. I look forward to learning a lot and getting started on this new adventure.

Danny, you have some really fine beekeepers in your area. The best thing that you can do if you are SERIUOS about becoming a beekeeper is to find a mentor in your area willing to let you shadow them and give you tips along the way. I "kept" bees for 5 or 6 years before I found my mentor. It made all the difference in the world. Also, there are beekeeping schools coming up soon. Don't miss out on that! Here is a list of regional associations in Oregon. You may check their website's to find out about Beeschool. Have fun!
