Hello! I'm a brand new Portland area bee... well, not a beeKEEPER, I guess. Bee Landlady, I suppose. I'm hosting a couple of hives (one a nuc that was a swarm a couple of weeks ago, the other an established colony moved from troutdale) for one of our local St. Johns beekeepers. I grew up raising bees, but it had been so many years that I wanted to get back into it with the safety net of an experience beekeeper in charge. But I get to go out and look at the girls whenever I like.
And as "rent" (not that I'd need any, but) I get WAX! I'm far less about the honey and more about the beeswax. It's been WAY too hot to make bee soup the past couple of day, but as soon as the temperature drops down to decent, I'll be making my first batch of North Portland candles.
Anyway -- I just wanted to say hello to my fellow Portlanders with bees!
(And I haven't had a chance to look through the forums, yet, but are there any other folks in the area that have comb or caps that I could take off your hands?)

Hiya! I live over in Tigard with one top-bar in my backyard. I also am more about the wax than the honey (although my hubby loves to brew with it), but this year I'm going to be working more with the brick of wax he bought me from the farmers' market then from my own. I had so many swarms this spring that I've not had a lot of build-out - but that's ok really; I wanted bees to have bees, not because I cared about the products.
