Well, Herb and I, Kevin gathered up bees yesterday. We stopped at a couple of our out yards and Jerry Mazadams and Paul Anderson's yards for bees. The Vandyke's offered 3 frames to shake but we already had enough. We ended up with about 6lbs of bees in two nuks that I made with screened bottoms. The frames of honey we gave them for feed made my storage room smell like a candy factory last night. Today Lars and Claudia joined in to help with grafting. I did the grafting and they dug out frames of larve and shuttled them back and forth. It was a nice but hot afternoon. Hopefully we will get a fair amount accepted by the bees. The nuks are back in the storage room where it is cool and dark and their fanning seems less frentic and more content tonight.

I just checked the shaken swarm box. After 48 hours we have about 45 grafts accepted. One bar was a total miss so I regrafted that frame.
We should have enough cells for every bee keeper in the TV chapter that comes to the picnic plus 5 for those that donated bees.

Can you please remind me of the dates for bringing our nucs and anything else we need to do.
Thanks! Alisa

Yes the date is Saturday July 24th at the TV chapter picnic. I will be there at 1:30 with the queen cells at the oak grove where we will leave the mating nuks for 3 weeks. I believe Jerry Masadam and Paul Anderson will be putting on a honey extraction demonstration at 2pm and the picnic starts at 3pm. The club will provide Hot Dogs and Hamburgers and the rest is potluck salads and desserts.
The oak grove at the Van Dyke place is a nice setting for the club mating yard.
I want to encourage the members to make up a queenless nuk and bring it on out on Saturday to the picnic. The Van Dyke place is about one mile North of Farmington Road on River Road on the Left hand side. Look for a sign that says Oak Grove Nursery directly across the road from Star Blueberries.
I look forward to seeing you all there.
