Hi all, I have a question and had to miss last night's meeting.
New hive - should I still be feeding?
Background: I installed my bee package from Stephen on April 22nd. Opened the hive for the first time on May 9th. Everything looked great! The bees had drawn 6 of the 8 frames out in the main hive, the queen was laying and I had a ton of nice white larvae growing in cells.
I added the second super and frames at this time. I've been feeding, but not with the top feeder as I had during the first two weeks. It doesn't fit in the western I have. They don't seem to be taking as much feed now, but then again, I've had a few drown because of the feeding setup. I removed it to avoid further casualties.
I wasn't sure since we're still having so much rain.
So, that's the extent of it. If you need more information, please let me know.
Thank you in advance,
Jazmyne

Hi Jazmyne, Keep feeding them through this rainy mess. In any other year you would be tapering off about now but as long as this cold rainy weather continues, keep feeding. They are able to collect enough pollen during the short sunny breaks but the temps do not reach a level that would cause most plants to give up any nectar. Good job on your first hive!
