Thanks for the geat pictures. He must have caught them just as they were about to swarm, with all of the queen cells & multiple queen catchers in the pics. It's amazing how fast virgin queens start to hatch out when you open up a hive where the bees have been holding them back from hatching while the hive is preparing to swarm, especially if the weather has been bad. It's a good idea to carry a few queen catchers to put virgins in if they hatch out while going through a hive, and it gives you some time to figure out how many splits your going to make from the colony. About like a fire drill sometimes!
