Hi,
We're backyard beekeepers and my husband developed an allergic reaction to a honeybee sting last fall (full-body hives and numb lips). He got an epi-pen afterward but is considering going through the series of venom shots to desensitize him. I've read that not all allergists are very knowledgeable about honeybee allergies. Does anyone know of someone in Portland who's good at this?
thanks much, Laurie Robinson

Yes I can. I have been to several allergist in my time and most visits feel like you have just gotten off a cattle car and ran through a feed lot.
Contrary to that Dr David E. Billstrom takes the time to work with you. His main office is by Washington Square. 503.245.8060

What a coincidence! I'm starting out in beekeeping this year and wanted to be tested for the allergy before I got bees. It took me awhile to find an allergist who would test me on my first visit. Most allergists require that you come in for a "getting to know you" appt., and then schedule ANOTHER appt. for allergy testing. Pfaw!
Bilstrom met with me, took my history, and tested me all in under one hour. He's knowledgeable about venom allergies and takes the time to educate his patients. So here's another recommendation for Dr. Bilstrom and his staff.
