As Drew's unofficial, self-appointed campaign manager, I would like to ask for a show of hands from those that will be willing to nominate Drew for TVBA president, in light of Todds retirement from the position.

I'll second that motion. All in favor, "yes"!
Creativity and enthusiam diminishes when you serve too long... Drew has already thought of a meeting subject that I would never have considered. That's very refreshing, and I look forward to attending with eyes wide open, and even to give presentations.
It's going to work out well for Drew. I know just how to assist him. The TVBA group has a real solid foundation in officers now, and I feel good about that.
PS Thanks very much Harry for the presentation. Funny to see scant attendance from the experienced crowed except for Marge and Allen, Bill Rufner, and Jerry Schwanche.

Drew gave an excellent presentation to the Tualalatin Valley Garden Club on Monday, October 16. I move that we cast a unanimous ballot for Andrew Schwab.

One way to get ideas for topics would be to look over what has been done for the last 3-5 years. I am sure there were some topics that were used that we would all benefit from an update on. But you also do not want to repeat something that has been done too recently.
Does anyone have a list of the topics we have previously done?
You can always poll the membership for topics of interest.
There are also many "controversial" topics that would be interesting such as-
Small cell size in brood hives.
Plastic foundation, plastic frames and now plastic hives, does anyone in the OSBA have experiece using these?
Queen rearing.
Some of the larger operations could tell the rest of us about their "tricks of the trade".
On some of these topics it may be more of a discussion than a presentation. You would just have to make sure that 2-4 expericenced people would be at the meeting. But don't scare a experienced beekeeper by telling them they have to make a presentation, just ask them to be part of the discussion.
If you give someone a couple of months notice thye can always help gather data from ohter members to support a discussion.

Haaaaaaaaa funny you mention. :oIt is looking like MEAD for March. If I have my way it will be a mead drinking mostly It takes all of 15 min to make it. The rest of the time will be spent drinking. O yes and for The November meeting which I think is still the club honey tasting with an open forum of sorts, best think of some topics and things for the rest of the year.

I will not offer very many subject ideas, because I want to be surprised. The president of the Portland Beekeepers' Association has given presentations about making mead... I just never taped into him.
Also, I usually have George Hansen give a presentation to our club once a year, and he has not come yet. Talk to him at the state meeting. He's my favorite speaker, but he must be getting burned out. But he's been doing this for, what 35 years or so.
In general the state meeting is an excellent source of potential speakers for the clubs. Kenny Williams and Heike gave presentations to our club via this route.

I forgot to add this again, "Drew for president"!
I was going through some of the handouts of speakers that have given presentations during my tenure. And I discovered that I have been president for SEVEN years. Let's try to rotate new people in, if our club continues to be successful, every two years or so.

Torey Johnson is my favorite speaker. It's best to schedule him for spring or fall so that he can talk about what's going on in the hive and what to do about it.
