The last couple SOBA meetings there have been questions as to where we can find package bees this year. From the OSBA message boards I have heard, Glory Bee, Ruhl Bee supply out of Portland. Also, Kenny Williams is said to have the most awesome packages there are and he lives outside of Corvallis. Check general board for more info. Has anybody researched prices?

I have always gone down to CK Koehnen's, near Chico. It is about a 4 hour drive, I've packed 35 boxes into my Subaru at one time.

That' about the third or fourth time I've heard about Koehnen's packages. Must be a good supplier.

I too have been getting queens from CK Koehnen for a few years. Love there queens. I must say though last year I also got two packages from them. Both those hives died over winter. I know they had mites pretty good cause I could always see a few running around on them. Best I can figure the checkmite did not work on the mites( Did not test to see if it was working last year ) So no more packages from them, from now on I just make my own splits. ;D Not sure why I didn't do that last year. BUT old sol mysti I am interested in trying your queens. I have talked my father into trying a couple of yours this year. Any suggesten on which one would be better for a ND season. He tries to winter them there. My father is a retired beekeeper with just a few hives to say he has them.

I was going to have John feild your question but it looks like he has already heard from your dad. John says the dark line is better for colder temps as they are hardy and frugal on stores.

Went to the LCBA bee school this last weekend and the Glory Bee Reps there said they ordered 500 packages or so, but will only be receiving 350....or was that the queens. Either way, they are receiving enough for all orders that were placed, but no extras....it is definitely tight. LCBA says they are counting on swarms or hive divisions to restock most losses by members this year. They are a pretty nice bunch of folks, and had a good bee school for beginners.....they make it look sooooo easy!
