What's in a name? Well, this landscape designer/contractor/gardener would like to learn the secrets of beekeeping. I am a willing apprentice if you have the time.

Melissa, I was hoping that someone from the Portland branch would chime in by now. Each branch having their own message board is a new feature, so the Portland members may not know about it yet. Anyway, there are some bee schools coming up. Check the events page ar orsba.org. It is a good place to learn and meet other beekeepers and learners.

We have an upcoming Beginning Beekeeping Day on April 9th in Colton and have club meetings the 2nd Thursday evening of each month. I am the vice president of the club this year. My name is Peter Forrest and my contact information is on this site under Portland Branch. Look forward to hearing from you! You can call or e-mail me which ever you prefer.

hi - my name is heather. i'm also interested in learning about beekeeping. i attended the last meeting of the portland metro beekeeping assn - but had to leave early to pick up my b/f's daughter. so we didn't get a chance to chat with anyone about workshops or classes. i am *very* interested in learning all i can this winter, as we would like to start a few hives this spring. does anyone know of any classes and/or workshops happening this winter? OR does anyone have time to meet with us on a weekend and show us their hives and talk to us a bit about what goes into beekeeping?
i will be at the next meeting in november. thanks!!

Heather, I will be doing a bee school for beginners at our Fall Conference in Newport next Friday and Saturday. You can find conference details at orsba.org.
I will also be having a one day bee school in Astoria on March 10. I'll probably be doing one in May in Bend, but that is for a colder, later climate. There will be other bee schools happening in Salem in February and or March. Ruhl Bee has a couple classes every year. Portland has a field day in April. The dates will be posted on the events page at orsba.org when they become available.
By far the best thing to do is attend the conference if you can, and that will give you lots to think about and more time to plan.
