I have a second year top bar hive, and yesterday my bees started clustering outside the hive ABOVE the entrance. Last year when they bearded, it was directly over the entrance. I'm wondering if they are preparing to swarm or what? Late yesterday afternoon they all started going back into the hive, but are out again today. I've called Bee Thinking and they said it wasn't really warm enough for them to be bearding.... anyone have thoughts on this? Attachments:

It might be preparation or attempt to swarm (the queen might not be ready to fly). Alternatively, you may have a new (supersedure) queen departing on mating flights. My bees exhibited similar behavior during such a case. Have a look at
