I was gifted two old bee hives. It appears all the components are present. What is the best method for cleaning the old comb out and readying the hives for a new colony? I wonder if I need to use a sanitizing method to be sure I am not creating an environment that invites problems. Edie edie AT ediereid DOT com

I suggest to burn all the old frames and start with new. That is where the majority of "bad stuff" is.
torch inside of boxes until burned also lid.
