My husband and I want bees very much. Our "farmily" includes the orchard, huge garden, and chickens which make it almost perfect. There is even a brand new (burned in) Warre hive complete with some donated comb and anointed with lemongrass oil. The only thing missing is... The bees! They are all around our yard because one of our neighbors has bees, and we live in a lightly forested neighborhood, but it's seemingly not wild enough to attract a swarm often.
We are avid farmsteaders and come from a thrifty background. Yes, we could purchase bees, but we were naively optimistic to think that if we built it, they would come. Now, we're thinking realistically that we have to be more proactive.
I'd love to capture one, if someone happened to call me. I have a ladder and an adventurous nature.
If interested, call 541-338-0031 or email gpeppers@gmail.com. thanks!

I am no expert. Heck, I have been described as "flailing" in this venture. What I will offer is to consider building smaller, closed swarm traps that you can set some of your comb in. They idealy would be about the size by volume of an eight frame deep Lang type hive. Have it closed up except for a 1.5 inch opening an inch or two from the bottom on the narrow side. You can place them about and when you get a swarm, put your hive back together with all your comb. I have found friends and relatives like having the traps at thier homes. Again, I am new to this but got a call tonight one of my traps has residents moving in and I see bees (my own ) exploring a trap on my home place.
