What I need is for some one to come to my hive to look at my bee's and show me what is what. I can read all day long but when I do and see is when I learn and it takes hold in my brain.

Irwin, Hopefully someone from your area will read your request. Do you live close to Myrtle Point so you can attend a meeting of the local bee group? I know they were interested in having me do another class down there next March or April, one where we use the second day to go through hives. I hope this helps.

Irwin, I don know when. When I did the class down there last year they mentioned that they want to do it again next year. So keep in touch with the Association down there or check the message board or the events page at orsba.org. I will post all upcoming classes there.

I don't think anybody Read's this form from my area Joe stopped by but all he did was have me lift the top of my hive and said they look good and to add a supper and an excluder not much help but he was a nice guy to talk to. so I guess I'll go it alone. The local club is a forty mile drive one way and are at 7:00 pm so if I go I will get two hour's sleep before I have to go to work.

Hey, Irwin--
I know how frustrating it can be to feel in the dark. I third the advice to get a cheap digital camera so that you can take pics and post them here.
Look on Craigslist or eBay for a camera--even some of the cheap keychain digital cameras are handy to keep in your bee gear. (My beau is a cell-phone photographer extraordinaire, by the way).
I'm a visual learner, and when I started out with beekeeping, I was lucky to have Keith DeLaPlane's "Honey Bees & Beekeeping: A Year in the Life of an Apiary". The book's got tons of great graphics, and is spiral bound so you can even take it out to the bee yard and have it open to a page you'd like to refer to. It also has a DVD to accompany it.
Finding mentors to show you, step by step, how to correctly work a hive and identify stuff can be tough.

:)Irwin- I am in somewhat the same situation. I thought all was good and I do have a lot of honey BUT I can't find a queen anywhere and some of them seemed to have swarmed at some point in the last month.....I think we have to tolerate not quite knowing enough until we can really get it. Hopefully they will survive the winter in spite of our ignorance!! I seem to do a lot of googling and reading of this board in addition to a bunch of books & I still don't quite get it. I wish you the best of luck in this adventure.
